How to set up search terms/keywords for online monitoring

Setting up keywords for your client's or your own company is simple. Just remember, setting up the right keywords is the key to accurate results.

1. If you don’t have your client’s company on Influencing already, you will need to add them to your account first via All Newsrooms. That way, each client will have a ‘monitoring profile’.

2. Click on the ‘Monitor’ tab and type the name of the company/client you want to set up monitoring search terms for.

3. Click on ‘Search Terms’ on the top right hand corner to see or modify the existing search terms you have set up on the system.

4. The system will have a default search term already set up for you with the name of your client. To edit that search term, simply click on its headline. To add new search terms, go to step 5.

5. To add a new monitoring Search Term/Keyword, click on the “+” button on the top right-hand corner. Choose the category your search term belongs to. If you are not sure, just select ‘Company’.

6. Once you edit an existing search term OR add a new one by choosing its category, the following wizard will open.

In the example below, we chose to monitor clips with the word ‘Microsoft’ which don’t contain the word ‘Apple’.

The fields you will NEED to fill are:

  • ‘Title of search term’, which is just a general title for the keyword you are setting up
  • ‘Coverage must contain the following words/terms’, these are Compulsory key terms, which is the field you will add your actual keywords to.
  • ‘And/or coverage must contain one of the following words/terms’ - These are Qualifying key terms. we suggest you just copy and paste the same keyword you added on the field above.
  • P.S. you don’t need to add exclusion words if you don’t have any.

7. You can also select what type of content you want to monitor by ticking the boxes on the left hand side:

8. Ensure Australia and New Zealand is selected for the countries to cover.

9. You can make your search term ‘Case sensitive’ by clicking on the small square on the left. For this example, by ticking ‘Case Sensitive’, the system will capture everything containing ‘Parramatta’, not ‘parramatta’.

10. You can also select specific outlets to monitor from the drop-down menu (leave it BLANK if you want to monitor ALL outlets)

11. Click on ‘Test Search’ to check if you actually get clips with the keywords you’ve just set up:

12. You will then find clips that relate to your search terms. Note that it only monitor up to 4 months of coverage:

If you want to go back and make some changes click “Previous.”

If you are happy and want to complete the setup, click “Done.”

13. To go back to your company/client’s monitoring profile and check your clips, just click on its name on the top of the page.

P.S. If you’ve just set up new keywords, it might take a little while until the clips actually appear on the monitoring profile.
